Two Indian fighter jets crash, pilot dies

India’s Su-30 and Mirage 2000 fighter jets appeared to collide during drills and crashed, killing one pilot and injuring two.

Two fighters of the Indian Air Force including a Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30 and a French-made Mirage 2000 crashed at around 10:00 on January 28, apparently due to an air collision during a drill in the south. New Delhi capital.

Both fighters took off from Gwalior Air Base, about 50 kilometers east of where they crashed. The collision left one pilot dead and two injured.

The first fighter jet crashed in the Pahadgarh forest in the state of Madhya Pradesh, about 300 km south of the capital New Delhi. The other fighter crashed in Bharatpur, Rajasthan state, about 100 km away.

Police chief Ashutosh Bagri of Morena district, Madhya Pradesh state, said the two pilots were found near the crash site and transported by helicopter to hospital.

The Su-30 has two pilots, while the Mirage 2000 has one pilot. Officials did not say which fighter pilot was killed.

The Indian Air Force said it was investigating to determine whether the two aircraft crashed due to an air collision.

In October 2022, an Indian army helicopter crashed in the state of Arunachal Pradesh, near the Chinese border, killing five service members. A few weeks earlier, an army helicopter also crashed near the town of Tawang, killing the pilot.
