Mr. Arjen Ijff, Vietnamese name is Hung, a Dutch-Vietnamese painter, inspired by tulips and lotus flowers when designing the logo template was completed in the last two days before the contest deadline in September 2022. .

The tulip is a symbol of the Netherlands – where Arjen grew up, and the lotus is chosen by many supporters as the national flower of Vietnam. This is also the symbolic flower of Vietnam Airlines, whose flights have brought Arjen back to his homeland to find lost loved ones.

Arjen chose pink as the common color for the “2 in 1” flower (lotus and tulip) in the logo. In other details, he chose orange to represent the Netherlands and red to represent Vietnam.

Arjen did not enter the logo design contest for the prize but to connect with Vietnam, repay the past and find himself. He was told that he had been abandoned at an orphanage on To Thi Huynh Street, Vinh Long Province (present name) when he was a few weeks old in early 1975.

In April 1975, the boy Arjen was received by the Dutch Embassy in Saigon and brought to the Netherlands to be adopted, along with 26 other Vietnamese children. In the early days of being alone, Arjen was cared for at the Dutch Embassy. After nearly 50 years, from the Netherlands, he had the opportunity to design a logo to celebrate the two countries’ diplomatic relations, helping him connect more with his Vietnamese roots.

Arjen started searching for his parents in 2007 even though he didn’t have any clues in his hand, nor did he meet anyone who still remembers the past. However, he still returned to Vietnam many times with the pain of finding relatives. Arjen hopes the story of the logo and his own is known to many people so that a miracle will happen and he can be reunited with his family.

Symbols of friendship

Many talents and unique design ideas have participated in the logo design contest to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and other countries.

The logo celebrates the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations and the 10th anniversary of the Singapore-Vietnam strategic partnership, organized by the Vietnamese Student Association in Singapore in collaboration with the Singapore Global Network. Le Thanh Hong, a student of Singapore Polytechnic School, won an award with a logo designed from lotus and orchid – two symbolic flowers of Vietnam and Singapore.

The logo of 50 years of Japan – Vietnam relations is also created from the flower symbol. On the red background of the national flags of the two countries are pink motifs of Japanese cherry blossom and Vietnamese lotus. The numbers 5 and 0 are intertwined in the meaning of the 50th anniversary and also carry the message that the two countries will unite and hold hands in the development journey, towards the future.

Another designer, Ngo Quang Trung, a 3rd year student at International University (Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City), has been the owner of the 50-year logo template selected by the British Embassy from more than 300 submissions. exam.

The logo of 50 years of diplomatic relations between the UK and Vietnam uses the symbol Khue Van Cac in the Temple of Literature – Quoc Tu Giam of Vietnam and the Big Ben clock tower of the United Kingdom with the number 50 interlocking to show the close attachment. and strong relationship between the two countries.

The British Embassy said the theme for the 50th anniversary year was “The UK and Vietnam build together for the future”.
