At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh stated that Vietnam always attaches importance and wants to strengthen multifaceted cooperation with Slovenia, according to the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The Prime Minister urged Slovenia to create more favorable conditions for Vietnam’s strong products such as electronics, textiles, agriculture and seafood to access Slovenian and EU markets.
Support to remove IUU yellow card with Vietnam
Expressing his impression on Vietnam’s socio-economic development achievements, Slovenian Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon stated that Slovenia is willing to further promote the traditional friendship and cooperative relationship with Vietnam, one of the main partners of Slovenia in the region.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister also suggested that Slovenia should soon ratify the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). The Head of Government also suggested that Slovenia put pressure on the European Commission (EC) to remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood soon.
Agreeing with Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh’s assessment and comments, the Slovenian Foreign Minister emphasized that the Slovenian government highly appreciates the market advantages, human resources and business environment of investment in Vietnam, as well as the fact that both countries are pro-free trade nations.
For this reason, the Slovenian business community is very interested and willing to cooperate effectively with Vietnamese partners. This is reflected in the fact that many leading Slovenian companies came to Vietnam on this occasion in search of cooperation and investment opportunities.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon agreed to strengthen cooperation in multilateral and regional forums. The two countries need to deal jointly with global challenges, such as climate change, energy crisis, food crisis.
Regarding the East Sea issue, the two sides stressed the importance of ensuring the safety, security and freedom of navigation and overflight in the East Sea, as well as resolving disputes by peaceful means based on law. international law, including the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
The Prime Minister also asked Slovenia to continue to support and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live and work, thus contributing to bilateral relations.

Slovenia is ratifying EVIPA
Also on May 23, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son held talks with Slovenian Foreign Minister Tanja Fajon.
At the meeting, Mrs. Tanja Fajon said that the National Assembly of Slovenia is in the process of ratifying EVIPA and affirmed her support for the EC to remove the IUU yellow card for Vietnamese seafood soon.
The two ministers agreed to coordinate the organization of cultural, artistic and people-to-people exchanges to commemorate the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2024. The two sides also discussed promoting and expanding cooperation in new fields such as education – training, culture – tourism.
The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern.
