Indonesia Bali authorities arrested the German tourist and sent her to a hospital for psychiatric treatment after she stripped naked in a sacred temple on the island.
Darja Tuschinski, a 28-year-old German tourist, argued on May 22 with officials at an event at the Saraswati Hindu temple in the city of Ubud after being refused entry to the inner sanctum. Tuschinski then undressed and walked among the dancers performing in the temple.
Tuschinski is also accused of failing to pay bills at several hotels on the Indonesian island of Bali. “This foreigner is depressed because he has no money to pay for his stay in Bali,” said local police spokesman Stefanus Satake Bayu on May 25.
Local authorities took Tuschinski to a psychiatric hospital in the city of Bangli for a check-up after the German tourist refused to board a plane to return home. Police said the Saraswati Temple held a ceremony to purify the place of worship and did not file a case against Tuschinski.

Indonesia last month expelled a Russian woman for posing nude in front of a sacred 700-year-old banyan tree in Bali, angering local Hindus. Another Russian national was also deported in April after posting photos of him taking off his pants on top of a sacred mountain.
According to the Bali immigration authority, the island deported 123 foreigners in the first five months of 2023. I Wayan Koster, the governor of Bali, asked the Indonesian Ministry of Law and Human Rights in March to tighten visa requirements.
Bali authorities are studying regulations to reduce international visitor quotas with the aim of attracting “high quality tourists”. “We roll out the red carpet for foreign tourists, but they have to comply with all regulations when they are in Indonesia,” said Tourism and Creative Economy Minister Sandiaga Uno.
