Mexican President Obrador urged Hispanic Americans not to vote for Florida Governor DeSantis because of his immigration policies.
“We hope that Hispanics in Florida wake up and don’t vote for Governor DeSantis a single vote. Don’t vote for someone who persecuted and disrespected immigrants,” said Mexican President López Obrador.
Obrador said Florida Governor Ron DeSantis takes aggressive action against immigrants for political purposes because he wants to become the Republican presidential nominee.

Florida Governor DeSantis is often fierce about immigration and border security. In September 2022, the Florida government chartered a plane to transport nearly 50 migrants from Texas to Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. Florida has also sent a police support team to Texas to help the state deal with the migrant problem.
Governor DeSantis, 44, announced on May 24 that he was running for the White House in 2024 as a Republican nominee, making himself an opponent of Trump. DeSantis is considered a rising star in the Republican Party, with the advantage of being young.
Lopez Obrador, a left-wing populist who took office in 2018, regularly comments on American politics. Although Mr. Trump has made controversial comments on the US-Mexico border issue, Obrador has a very friendly personal relationship with the former US president. Last November, Mr. Lopez Obrador asked on Twitter to restore Mr. Trump on this social network. In April, Obrador said the criminal charges against Trump were politically motivated, aimed at damaging his campaign prospects.
