On her wedding day, May 20, instead of wearing a traditional dress, the bride, surnamed Fan in central China’s Henan Province, dressed as Ultraman, her husband’s favorite superhero. The video of the bride surprising her husband and groom’s family attracted over 5 million views on Douyin, the Chinese version of TikTok.
The groom was initially surprised to see his wife posing as a superhero, but quickly warmed up and told his pal, “I know she’s going to blow me away anyway.”
In another video posted after the wedding, Fan said she wanted to prepare a surprise for her husband because he is very passionate about Ultraman, which first aired in 1966 and has been popular in China since the 1980s.

The couple, who have known each other for nine years and been together for seven, said their parents were also supportive of their unique idea because they thought marriage and happiness were between two people.
Traditionally, the Chinese bride sits on the bed waiting for her husband to pick her up. This ritual often has challenges with the groom’s family, such as hiding the bride’s shoes for the groom to find. The Chinese believe that such a procession will bring blessings to the newlyweds.
Ultraman’s bride has caused a fever on Chinese social media, making everyone emotional and many people even jealous of the groom.
“It’s true that the clouds meet the wind,” commented one Chinese social media user, adding that the two are the perfect couple.
“You are not only the light of the groom, but also the light of most men,” another user praised the bride.
