GIIAS 2023, to be held from August 10 to 20, will be the auto show in Indonesia with the largest number of participants in a decade. This year, 49 auto brands will heat up the atmosphere in Southeast Asia’s biggest auto market, which has a strong presence of Chinese carmakers.
According to iNews (formerly known as SUN TV), the number of Chinese car brands present at GIIAS 2023 is particularly large. At least 9 brands from the country of billions will be listed in GIIAS, which is almost equal to the number of Japanese automakers participating.
It is not unusual for Japanese automakers to make a splash at GIIAS. Because Japanese cars have dominated the Indonesian market for many years. The top 10 best-selling cars in the first half of 2023 all have logos from Japanese automakers.
Hence, the huge presence of Chinese auto brands at GIIAS indicates fierce competition in the times to come.
chinese car brand wuling
With the Industrial Design Copyright Registration Document registering Baojun Yep in Indonesia, it is very likely that this model will be on display at GIIAS 2023.
The Baojun Yep mini electric car attracts attention because of its appearance, which is reminiscent of the “mini Mercedes-Benz G-Class” Suzuki Jimny, which is making a splash in the Indian market and shows great promise in Southeast Asia.
Leaked documents show that the Baojun Yep brought to Indonesia has a similar look to the model sold in China. It is a compact urban SUV with 3 doors and 4 seats, slightly smaller than the Jimny but larger than the Wuling Hongguang MiniEV. Coming to Vietnam, this can be a real rival of VinFast VF 3.

The Baojun Yep uses an electric motor at the rear with 67 hp and 140 Nm of torque, which is twice as powerful as the Wuling Hongguang Mini EV. Top speed 100 km/h. With a 28.1 kWh battery pack, the car can cover a range of 303 km on a single charge, which is much more than the Vinfast VF3 with a range of 285 km – Photo: Wooling
Maxus
Under SAIC, Maxus is actually in the same house as Wooling, but with a focus on minivans and MPVs. The model most likely to be brought by Maxus at GIIAS 2023 is the Mifa 9, a luxury MPV model from the European market.

Leader/Hozon Auto
The Chinese car brand has confirmed participation in GIIAS 2023. The pictures of the car brought by him have also been shared on the Instagram account of the leader Indonesia. Those 3 models are Leader U, Leader V and Leader S.
This can be seen as a tacit confirmation of the question of which cars the leaders would bring to the show. But according to Indonesian media, the leader will introduce at least 5 models, not 3.

The Leader U is an electric SUV which shares the same segment with the Lynk & Co 01, most likely coming to Vietnam, with 2 battery options for a range of 500km and 610km. The Leader V has specifications below the Leader U, with a 40.7 kWh battery for a range of 384 km. The Leader S is an electric sports car from Lamborghini with scissor doors. Cherry
Last month, Chery Indonesia’s public relations director had confirmed that it will be participating in GIAS 2023 with two new SUV models, one of which is a fully electric vehicle. Rifki Setiawan said, “The car has been delivered in prototype form, but we will soon produce it and sell it in the market.”
The two models mentioned are the Chery Tiggo 4 Pro (competing with the Hyundai Creta) and the Omoda 5 EV (competing with the Hyundai Ioniq 5).
Not only this, the area of Cherry booth has also been increased from 400 m2 700m in the back2 this year.

In the electric vehicle segment alone, the Omoda 5 EV competes with the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Expanding, the Omoda 5 will face both the Mazda CX-5, Honda CR-V… The Omoda 5 is going to be sold in the Vietnamese market, even going into domestic assembly from 2024. DFSK/Dongfeng Socon Automobile
DFSK promises to rock GIIAS 2023 with a strong lineup ranging from cars to commercial vehicles. Notably, the Gelora E electric minivan is advertised as particularly eco-friendly and competes with the Ceres E1 mini electric car models Wooling and Smart EQ.

The introduced Gelora E consumes only 0.145 kWh of electricity per kilometer travelled. The cost of electricity in Indonesia is as low as 373 VND per kilometer, which is half as cheap as comparable internal combustion engine vehicles (calculated by fuel costs in Indonesia) – Photo: Liputan 6

Ceres E1 has already been launched in the Indonesian market, but it has not announced the price, launch date as well as the scope of activities. Hence, GIIAS 2023 could be an opportunity for the company to reveal more details about this mini electric car – Photo: Uzon
Great Wall Motor (GWM)
GWM is present at GIIAS 2023 through its sub-brands Haval, Ora and Tank. These are all brand new in Indonesia.
“Since this is their first time performing in Indonesia, we don’t know if they want to sell immediately. But we think they will show or promote themselves strongly because they see the Indonesian market,” he said. Remarkable,” Rizwan Alamsza, President and Chief Organizer of GIIAS 2023, told the media.

Based on the Bangkok Motor Show 2023 in March, it is likely to see two Haval-branded SUVs, the Jolyon HEV and the H6. If the Haval Jolyon HEV uses a hybrid engine, the Haval H6 has two options: hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV). The Haval H6 has also been introduced in Vietnam for VND 1,096 billion – Photo: Haval
