This is not the first time that the chief of the Wagner force has been declared dead in an air crash.
In October 2019, an An-27 plane crashed in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Mr Prigozhin is believed to have been on board. However, he appeared to be safe 3 days after the accident.

However, following news of the plane crash, supporters of the Wagner forces paid tribute to Prigozhin outside the Wagner Center building in St. Petersburg.
While the cause of the crash is unclear, Russian social media channels are abuzz with speculation that there may have been a bomb hidden in a barrel of fine wine aboard the plane.
Local emergency services said the victim’s body had been found in the rubble, but the Daily Mail could not verify whether Mr Prigozhin was one of the victims.
So far the Kremlin has not commented on the plane crash which has caused a global stir.

The Ridovka news agency reported that the private military company had “a long-established mechanism of action in the event of the death of Prigozhin or his commander, Dmitry Utkin.”
A source confirmed: “In the event of the death of Mr. Prigozhin, there will be a mechanism for full mobilization.”

In connection with the suspected plane crash of tycoon Prigozhin in Russia, several pieces of aircraft debris were found 2 km from the scene. Channel Russia-24 Russia reported on 24 August: “During free fall, the wreckage of the Embraer aircraft was scattered over an area 2 km long from the village of Kuzenkino, where most of the fuselage debris was found.”
Also, according to the Russia-24 channel, ‘most of the plane’s debris fell on the area located near agricultural enterprises’.
News agency RIA Novosti A wreckage of the Embraer aircraft lay on the road to the village of Kuzenkino, about 2 km from the crash site. The local police have sealed off the wreckage for investigation.
A local woman said she saw parts of the plane falling off.
