On the morning of September 11, the Inter-Parliamentary Union’s “Science for Peace” workshop on the theme “Water Security and Insecurity – Rebuilding Peaceful Coexistence with Science” began in China. Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE, in Quy Nhon city, Binh Dinh province).
It is a science diplomat event co-organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), Science Association Meets Vietnam and ICISE Centre.
The conference, which ran from 11 to 13 September, brought together more than 60 scientists and youth parliamentarians representing 18 countries around the world. The conference brings together scientists, researchers, managers and young parliamentarians from Vietnam, Asia-Pacific, Africa and other regions of the world to share knowledge, present research results, discuss issues related to water security and insecurity.
This is a very important international issue and a peaceful solution based on science is needed to solve it together.
The conference has 9 discussion sessions on in-depth topics such as: science and politics, earth observation programs for monitoring water resources, etc.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the seminar, Professor Tran Thanh Van, President of the Vietnam Association of Science Encounters, said that Vietnam has participated in the proposal of a project to designate 2022-2023 as the International Year of Basic Sciences. “This is the vision and path of the future for sustainable development for our green planet, a path that the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the ICISE Center will walk and advance together” – said Professor Van.

Mr. Ho Quoc Dung, Secretary of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee, said that this workshop is the first event to mark the official realization of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the ICISE Centre.
At the same time, according to him, it is also an important and high-quality conference from the academic point of view in the context of “peace, stability and development cooperation” facing major challenges.
“In this event, issues related to water security and insecurity will be mentioned, analyzed and clarified based on scientific solutions to establish peace. This event will strengthen the relationship between the scientific community and the parliamentary coalition community to support science and the world. Also contributes to strengthening peace” – expressed Mr. Dung.
The Secretary of the Binh Dinh Provincial Party Committee also hopes that the ICISE Center will truly become an address for domestic and international scientists to come here to share and exchange scientific knowledge so as to help Binh Dinh and Vietnam develop faster.
