The fluctuations in 2021 make the Vietnamese car market difficult. Most models have a decrease in sales compared to 2020, except for some “kings” of the segment such as VinFast Fadil, Toyota Corolla Cross… It is these same models that have created an unequal battle with competitors. competitors in the segment when leaving many times behind, there are segments that also see the bottom-ranked model whose sales are not equal to the odd number of the top-ranked model.
Class A car
Since 2020, VinFast Fadil has risen to the top of the A-class car group in Vietnam, after surpassing the Hyundai Grand i10. At that time, the Vietnamese model was only slightly better than the opponent by less than 500 cars. In 2021, the sales picture of this segment becomes clearer when VinFast Fadil reaches 24,128 vehicles, far ahead of the Grand i10’s 11,732 vehicles.

Although it is more than 2 times behind, Grand i10 is also the only car that still has the strength to fight Fadil. The following models such as Kia Morning, Toyota Wigo, despite being upgraded in life cycle, are still completely exhausted before the Vietnamese model.
Ranked 3rd in the segment, Morning’s sales only reached 3,904 vehicles in 2021, 6 times less than Fadil’s sales. In other words, Fadil’s sales are more than the sales of the bottom models combined.
Despite a 12% decrease in sales compared to 2020, Kia Cerato/K3 is still at the top of the C-segment sedan segment with 10,505 units sold. Compared to the sales of 5,333 vehicles of Mazda3, Kia Cerato/K3 more than doubled.

The ranking order in this segment has not changed compared to 2020. In 2021, only Kia Cerato will be upgraded to the K3 life cycle while the models below will not have any noticeable changes.
That’s why Kia Cerato/K3 continues to stay ahead of the lower-ranked models.
Entering 2022, the new Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Altis will be brought to Vietnam, promising a more attractive race.
Most of the segments have the change of thrones and fluctuations, the D-class sedan is the most “boring” car group. For many years, Toyota Camry has remained unique in the D sedan segment despite the constantly changing competitors. The Kia Optima is as cheap as a C-class sedan, but the design lacks accents while the Honda Accord has an eye-catching design but the price is among the highest in the segment.

Only Mazda6 is a model that can compete with Camry. Mazda’s models have an eye-catching design, are reasonably priced and are constantly being updated. Despite its best efforts, Mazda6’s most remarkable success is the times it approaches sales with Camry. For example, in August 2021, Mazda6 achieved sales of 50 vehicles, 17 vehicles less than Camry. However, the race becomes more difficult for Mazda6 when Camry has just had a facelift launched at the end of 2021, which has been upgraded quite a bit.
By the end of 2021, Hyundai Santa Fe continues to hold the leading position in the 7-seater SUV group in Vietnam. Hyundai sold 12,160 Santa Fe units in 2021, twice as many as the second-ranked Toyota Fortuner with 6,352 vehicles.

Santa Fe is one of the rare top-selling models with an increase in sales compared to 2020, despite many difficulties in 2021. Compared to 2020, Santa Fe’s 2021 sales increased by more than 700 vehicles, while Fortuner reduced to more than 2,100 vehicles. Thus, the decline of Fortuner is the main reason why the gap with Santa Fe widens.
In 2021, Santa Fe is introduced to a mid-life upgrade with many changes in appearance, technology, equipment… Therefore, this model continues to retain its attraction to customers while rivals The players proved exhausted with the fluctuations in 2021.
Along with Camry, Ford Ranger is the next model that has maintained its dominant position in the segment for many years. At the end of 2021, the Ford Ranger achieved sales of 15,650 vehicles, an increase of more than 2,300 vehicles compared to 2020. Similar to previous years, Ranger proved to be superior with sales many times higher than competitors. Compared to the second-ranked model, Toyota Hilux (4,413 cars), Ranger is more than 3 times higher.
