29.95 is the highest standard score of this year’s entrance exam, calculated on a 30-point scale. This is the benchmark score of the literature – history – geography combination of Korean studies, public relations and Oriental studies of the University. Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi). Candidates who do not have priority points must achieve more than 9.98 points in each subject to be admitted.

Many industries over 29 points
this is not special case. Many other industries also have benchmarks of 29 or higher. Thus, candidates who get 9.5 points for each subject still fail.
At the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi), in addition to the majors with the standard score of 29.95, there are five other disciplines with the standard score of 29, four of 27.75, many of them over 27. Therefore, in many disciplines, even though candidates get 9 or 9.5 points in each subject, they still fail.
Similarly, at many other schools such as University of Education, University of Technology (Hanoi National University), Diplomatic Academy, Academy of Journalism and Propaganda, Hanoi Law University, Hanoi University of Law. Hong Duc … also has many majors with the standard score above 29.
Particularly at the Diplomatic Academy, there are two majors with a standard score of 29 or higher, many with a benchmark score of over 27.
Meanwhile, the number of majors with a benchmark score of over 27 points in schools is uncountable. While majors with a benchmark score of over 29 often fall into the combination of literature – history – geography, industries with a benchmark score of over 27 are spread across different combinations and schools, from economics, technology to engineering, and society. .
What is the cause?
Speaking in the press, a representative of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi) said that the journalism benchmark of 29.9 is not unusual. Accordingly, out of 55 criteria of the mass system, there are 25 criteria for the method of considering graduation exam scores with six combinations, with an average of nearly 5 criteria in each combination. Particularly, the combination of literature – history – geography had 9 candidates with a score of 29.9.
The university representative also said that the graduation exam was easy, so this year the test scores of the candidates were very high, with a lot of 9 and 10 points.
This year’s C00 complex graduation exam scores are “increasing” than in previous years, many candidates get good marks in literature and history. Statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training show that the whole country has 24,154 candidates scoring 9 or more subjects in literature, 29,423 candidates scoring between 9 and 10 in history subjects.
After many years of doing admissions work, Mr. Do Van Dung – former rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology and Education – said that even though there are many majors with very high standards, candidates with more than 9 points in each subject still fail. This is normal in admissions. Many of these candidates have priority points that are why they get that score.
Mr. Dung analyzed that last year, the combined score of A1, D1 was very high because the English exam was easy. This year, the English subject is more difficult, so the benchmark scores of these combinations decrease. This year, the topic was easy, so the test scores increased sharply, causing the benchmark scores of the literature – history – geography combination in many schools to increase.
“Many years ago, there was almost no such high standard of scores as in recent years. In addition to the factor of different annual exam questions, another factor that has pushed the standard of high school graduation exam scores to increase is that in recent years, The school enrolls students in many ways, so the remaining criteria for the graduation grading method are not many. Easy questions, high test scores, and low criteria make the preparation score almost perfect. That’s normal. in enrollment” – Mr. Dung explained further.
However, Mr. Dung also said that although the schools are self-selected, it is necessary to consider the common ground so that the opportunity to enter the university is equal for all candidates. Candidates in remote areas will find it difficult to compete with candidates in the city in the combined English certificate and competency assessment methods. They only rely on the final exam scores. However, because the quota is small, your chances of getting into university are also very slim.
Parents are confused by the enrollment method
A parent said that his child applied for the entrance examination method 5 (combining the test scores of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, the high school graduation exam scores, the high school transcripts) into the Polytechnic University, the University of Science and Technology. National School Ho Chi Minh City. As a result, candidates achieved 27 points in the high school graduation exam and 640 ability assessment test (not enough for the 650 floor score of this university).
Because they know that there are not enough benchmarks to evaluate the ability, but in the school’s information, in case candidates do not take the competency assessment, they can convert their high school graduation exam scores to convert. Parents call the school to ask and be advised to register their wishes for the school to consider. The result of the candidate not being admitted.
“If I convert my high school graduation exam scores into conversion, my child will have a much higher score than the standard score. The enrollment method is quite confusing” – said this parent.
Talking to parents, Mr. Bui Hoai Thang – head of the training department of the Polytechnic University – said that the candidate had taken the exam and failed to score on the floor of the competency assessment test.
The school only converts high school graduation exam scores into conversion for candidates who are unable to participate in the aptitude test due to force majeure reasons such as illness or problems that prevent them from taking the exam.
