Belgium donates 100,000 doses of vaccine to Vietnam

The Belgian government donated 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca to Vietnam, while organizations and overseas Vietnamese in this country supported medical equipment worth 536.5 billion VND.

The ceremony to donate vaccines, supplies and medical equipment to prevent Covid-19 took place on September 9 at the Vietnamese embassy in Belgium, with the participation of National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

At the ceremony, a representative of the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs presented 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to Vietnam to support the prevention of Covid-19. These vaccines will be brought back to Vietnam by National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue.

Joining hands to support Vietnam to overcome the pandemic, a number of organizations, businesses, intellectuals and Vietnamese expatriates in Europe donated medical equipment for epidemic prevention and control with a total value of VND 536.5 billion, including masks, ventilators, and rapid test kits, according to the National Assembly’s announcement.

In a meeting with Belgian Deputy Prime Minister Pierre-Yves Dermagne on the same day, National Assembly Chairwoman Vuong Dinh Hue thanked the Belgian government for its support of 100,000 doses of vaccine to help Vietnam control the epidemic, and asked Belgium to continue supporting through the COVAX mechanism and give priority to Vietnam in accessing vaccines, ceding redundant vaccines to Vietnam, according to Government Newspaper.

Deputy Prime Minister Dermagne acknowledged the comments of the President of the National Assembly and wished that Vietnam would support large infrastructure projects invested by Belgium, strategic cooperation and research support in the field of agriculture, opening up the for agricultural products.

The National Assembly Chairwoman affirmed that Vietnam attaches great importance to developing cooperation with Belgium and wishes to strengthen cooperation in all fields, highly appreciating Belgium’s coordination in multilateral cooperation and promoting ASEAN-EU relations.

The two sides agreed to promote measures to develop Vietnam-Belgium relations and strengthen coordination within ASEAN and ASEM when the EU and ASEAN have established a strategic partnership.
