30 years ago, on January 30, 1991, a woman named Kim Bu Nam was arrested by the police for attempted murder. She slashed the sensitive area of the man Song Baek Kwon in his bedroom. The bloody scene was so terrifying that it could hardly be considered a mere murder.
Why did Kim do that? The answer came as a result of psychological trauma that appeared after this woman was raped by Song since she was a child.
At the time of the abuse, Kim was only 9 years old. But as a neighbor of my family, taking advantage of the child to go out to do errands for his parents, he harmed me.
Song forced Kim to take off his clothes, cover his mouth, and then play tricks. Once satisfied, he asked the girl not to tell anyone and if she did not obey, he would kill the entire family of the child.
Kim was very scared, the attack made her bleed a lot but did not dare to tell anyone, including the police, for fear of bad things happening to her family. When asked about the blood stains under his pants, Kim only falteringly replied: “It’s just a minor injury“.
The extreme post-traumatic stress made Kim’s entire childhood life after that day like hell. Horrible memories are always waiting to rush back and torment the child.
After growing up, Kim married her first husband through matchmaking. But Kim’s married life cannot be good because she always obsess about the neighbor, even at intimate times, thinking that her husband is the one who harmed her.
Despite many attempts, Kim still could not have sex with her husband. Because of that, the two “go their separate ways” after only 2 months of marriage. Kim’s second marriage is not much better. She had to break up with her husband after an argument over the same issue. Kim’s life seems to have been ruined since then.
After all, Kim realized that Mr. Song was the source of everything. At that time, she tried to file a lawsuit, exposing the corrupt neighbor, but unfortunately, the time limit for denouncing and punishing him before the law had expired. So Kim decided to take action on her own to get rid of the person who ruined her life.
On January 30, 1991, Kim bought two sharp knives at the market and fastened them to both sides before going to Mr. Song’s house. When the door to Mr. Song’s house opened, Kim shouted: “Get out, I have something to tell you“. Seeing Kim’s angry expression, Mr. Song also guessed what she was trying to say, so he replied: “This crazy girl, it’s all over, what more do you want now?”.
At that time, Kim immediately rushed over and pushed Mr. Song. This man was paralyzed on half of his body, so he couldn’t fight the opponent. Next, Kim pulled out a kitchen knife from inside and swung it at Mr. Song, targeting his lower abdomen and genitals. When Mr. Song resisted and snatched the knife, Kim pulled out another knife and continued the attack.
Hearing Mr. Song’s cry for help, neighbors rushed to check but the man was already dead. Before his death, he only had time to say a few last words to his wife: “Honey… hurry up… the hospital”.
Kim was arrested and charged with murder. Standing in the dock, this woman declared: “I don’t kill people, it’s an animal.”. The court found that Kim had been sexually assaulted since she was a child, causing psychological effects that led to her inability to control her impulsive behavior.
Kim was present at the trial.
Kim was sentenced to 2 years and 6 months in prison, only half the minimum sentence (5 years) for murder. The Court of Appeal and the Supreme Court rejected Kim’s appeal, deciding to uphold the lower court’s decision.
After being treated at Gongju Medical Center for 1 year and 7 months, Kim was released in May 1993. Since then, not much information about this woman has been updated by the media, but rumors say she returned to her hometown and lived a quiet life.
The murder case of Kim Bu Nam shows that the problem of sexual violence against underage children is extremely painful, leaving victims with heart wounds that never heal so that they themselves have to plunge into sin. . Statistics of the Korean Sexual Violence Counseling Center released in March 2019 show that 49% (39 people) of sexual violence victims need to receive medical treatment 3 years after the incident. job. In particular, 27.8% (22 people) of the victims who have been abused 10 years ago still suffer from severe psychological trauma.
