Cuban Prime Minister receives Ho Chi Minh Medal

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh awarded the Ho Chi Minh Medal to Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz for his contributions to strengthening the relationship between the two countries.

Minister and Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son this morning announced the decision of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on awarding the Ho Chi Minh Medal to Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz, according to VNA. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh then presented the Medal to Mr. Marrero Cruz at the ceremony at the Government Headquarters.

“On behalf of the Cuban people, I would like to accept this noble award, the Order named after President Ho Chi Minh,” the Cuban Prime Minister said. He assessed that one of the clearest examples of bilateral relations is the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic.

This afternoon, the Cuban Prime Minister paid a courtesy visit to Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and met with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. The President of the National Assembly shared with Cuba the losses caused by the explosion of a fuel depot on August 5 at Matanzas Industrial Park and visited people affected by Hurricane Ian on September 28.

Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz is on an official visit to Vietnam from September 28 to October 2. This is his first visit outside of Latin America since taking office in December 2019 and the first visit of a Cuban senior leader to Vietnam since 2018.

Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960, two years after the success of the Cuban Revolution. Vietnam has supported Cuba to develop household-scale rice production, maize, soybean production and aquaculture… Cuba imports about 300,000 – 400,000 tons of rice per year from Vietnam.

Some Vietnamese enterprises are implementing investment projects on industrial park infrastructure construction, construction material production, washing powder production in Cuba. Cuba has provided Vietnam with more than 5 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and expressed its willingness to send a medical team to help Vietnam fight the epidemic.

In September 2021, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Cuba, the first visit of a foreign head of state to Cuba since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
