During his 5-day visit to Vietnam from September 28 to October 2, Prime Minister Marrero Cruz is expected to have activities in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, hold talks with Vietnamese leaders and attend the signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation documents. .
This is Marrero Cruz’s first visit outside of Latin America since taking office in December 2019, and the first visit by a Cuban senior leader to Vietnam since 2018.
Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960, two years after the success of the Cuban Revolution. Vietnam has supported Cuba to develop household-scale rice production, corn, soybean and aquaculture production… Cuba imports from Vietnam about 300,000 to 400,000 tons of rice per year. Some Vietnamese enterprises are implementing investment projects on industrial park infrastructure construction, construction material production, washing powder production in Cuba.
In September 2021, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Cuba, the first visit of a foreign head of state to Cuba since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
