The tents sparkle with lights
Share with Youth Online, Duc Anh (travel blogger) said that this camping site on the ice is spontaneous, organized by the community that loves camping in Korea, not managed or organized by any tour company. Initially, he knew this place existed through the hashtag #빙박 (ice, frozen) on Instagram. Excited, he immediately asked a Korean friend and was brought here on January 26.
Koreans enjoy camping on the ice in Andong
“Andong is in the south of Korea to the Pohang side, nearly 300km from Seoul. When I was brought here by Mr. Onaga, I was very skeptical. In the south, the weather is warm, it’s still hot on the way, no sign of cold. Along the way, the weather is warm. The route is the dry harvested fields with the sun as bright as the summer day.
When I turned to the side of the road deep into the mountain, put my hand on the window, I felt the cold gradually appearing, and the frozen water on the side of the road more and more. The cold air from the frozen river below hitting me made me more excited than ever, I immediately took out my phone to livestream to share this moment with everyone,” he recalled.
People enjoy activities on ice
As a spontaneous point, there are almost no regulations to ensure safety. Duc Anh is advised not to camp in the ice waterfall climbing area (this area is only for climbers, because they have equipment, and are prone to falling icebergs). In addition, guests need to look closely and predict the thickness of the ice. Duc Anh went to avoid the snowy day because he could not predict the thickness of the ice surface under the snow.
“Last year, I tried walking under the frozen lake in Gwangju, but when I went to the middle of the lake, I heard the ice crack and felt that the ice was not hard, so I turned right back. Learning from that experience, this year’s trip Going to Andong goes more smoothly,” Duc Anh said.
You can use anything to skate
In Andong, you can experience many interesting activities on the ice such as sleeping, skating (use whatever you have to skate, like a roller skating rink on ice, while Duc Anh takes the manufactured chair) available there for skiing), ice waterfall climbing (indoor artificial climbing skills required), hole fishing under the ice.
This is also a great virtual living place
Before experiencing the activities, the group set up a tent together. They built large dining halls, then set up individual tents to sleep in. After the meal, they began to wander along the frozen river to take a walk and take pictures. Most people go home early to rest to wait until midnight to take pictures of the Milky Way.
On the ice, they pitched their tents and cooked together
“The first time I slept on the ice, it was colder than I thought, even though there were several layers of insulation. Luckily, my friend gave me two more pads, so I was able to sleep a little better in this ‘ice cold’ bed. Sometimes I hear the crackling sound underneath the cracked ice. Fortunately, I can handle the cold well, so I can sleep more than one companion,” he said.
Camping on the ice is an unforgettable memory of him in Korea. This is also his first time to Andong. Duc Anh’s biggest regret is that this place is difficult to reach without a private car, because there is no passing public transport.
He said that when camping on ice, the most expensive thing is to invest in tools and equipment for camping. The Korean friend who accompanied him prepared 80% of the time from insulated mattresses, hand drills, cooking utensils… He only brought sleeping tents, sleeping bags, mattresses and tables and chairs to rest in front of the tents, hot bags. , camera and BBQ food.
“An ideal place for this epidemic season, if you are passionate about traveling and are in Korea, try coming here to camp,” he said.
