Germany supports Vietnam with more than 850,000 doses of vaccine

The German government supported Vietnam with an additional 852,480 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX mechanism, the shipment arrived in Hanoi today.

“I am very pleased with the shipment of German vaccines through the COVAX mechanism. Germany has always stood with Vietnam in the fight against Covid-19,” said German Ambassador to Vietnam Guido Hildner today, according to a press release. Report of the German Embassy.

Ambassador Hildner added that the world can only win against Covid-19 when the pandemic is controlled everywhere, so Germany and the European Union (EU) always support fair and transparent access to vaccines through COVAX mechanism.

Acting United Nations Resident Coordinator and World Health Organization Representative in Vietnam Kidong Park thanked the German government and people for sharing valuable vaccines with Vietnam.

With more than 850,000 additional doses of vaccine from Germany, Vietnam has received a total of 12,578,110 doses of Covid-19 vaccine through the COVAX mechanism.

According to the Vaccine Diplomacy Working Group, by the end of August, Vietnam had received 33 million doses of the vaccine and may receive another 16-17 million doses this month.

Vietnam aims to receive 150 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine in 2021 to immunize about 70% of the population, in order to achieve herd immunity. As of September 15, Vietnam has deployed 31.2 million doses of the vaccine, of which 25.4 million people have received one dose, and 5.8 million people have received the second dose.
