Prime Minister Johnson appointed Liz Truss as British Foreign Secretary to replace Dominic Raab when transferring him to the position of Deputy Prime Minister and Attorney General.

Shortly before the fall of Kabul, Rabb asked a deputy to handle an emergency call with the Afghan foreign minister to discuss the evacuation of interpreters who had worked for the British military, but the call never took place. . Rabb faced a request to resign when this information was revealed.

Rabb later said he had no intention of resigning, but admitted that he was late to the situation and said he would not have gone on vacation if he had known the Taliban would soon enter Kabul.

Rabb also denied reports that he was relaxing on the beach on the day Kabul fell. “It’s not like I went paddle boarding and the beach was closed that day,” Rabb said.

During the cabinet reshuffle, Prime Minister Johnson also dismissed former education minister Gavin Williamson and appointed Nadhim Zahawi, who previously held the position of Minister in charge of Covid-19 vaccine development, to this position.

Williamson was once dismissed as Defense Secretary after leaking an important decision related to Huawei during a meeting of the British National Security Council.

Robert Jenrick stepped down as Minister for Housing, Communities and Local Government. Replacing Jenrick is Michael Gove, who with Johnson led the Brexit campaign in 2016 and has held several ministerial positions, most recently as minister in charge of the British Cabinet Office.

Robert Buckland stepped down as attorney general to make way for Raab.
