Italy aided Vietnam with 1.2 million more doses of vaccine

Italy will provide more than 1.2 million doses of vaccine, bringing the total number of doses it has given to Vietnam to more than 2.8 million.

“Italy will provide an additional 1,225,440 doses of vaccine to Vietnam,” the European Union (EU) mission in Vietnam announced on Twitter and Facebook accounts on September 28. In addition, 2.6 million doses of vaccine provided by Germany also arrived in Vietnam on September 26, bringing the total German aid to 3.45 million doses.

“Europe will continue to stand with Vietnam in the fight against Covid-19,” the EU mission emphasized.

The Italian government on September 21 announced additional aid to Vietnam with 796,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the Covax mechanism of the World Health Organization (WHO). Vietnam on September 14 also received 812,060 doses of Italy’s vaccine.

According to a post by the EU mission in Vietnam, the EU is currently the second largest vaccine donor for Covax and is expected to provide at least 1.3 billion doses of vaccine to countries by the end of this year. Covax has delivered more than 9 million doses to Vietnam.

EU countries that have directly supplied vaccines to Vietnam include Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Netherlands, Poland, Romania and Slovakia. The two supplying countries through the Covax mechanism are France and Italy. Currently, Germany and Italy are the two EU members with the largest vaccine donor to Vietnam.

Faced with the complicated disease situation and the emergence of dangerous new strains like Delta, Vietnam has tried to access as many vaccine sources as possible to quickly deploy a large-scale vaccination campaign, considering this as a solution. measures and urgent priorities to combat the epidemic.

According to the Vaccine Diplomacy Working Group, Vietnam may receive another 16-17 million doses of the vaccine this month. Vietnam’s goal is to receive 150 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine this year to immunize about 70% of the population.
