This decision helps bring the total number of Covid-19 vaccines that Italy has donated to Vietnam to more than 1.6 million doses, making Vietnam one of the largest priority partners to receive Italy’s vaccines globally. Italy is also one of the European Union (EU) members with the largest support for Vietnam through the COVAX mechanism.

Vietnam on September 14 received 812,060 doses of Italian vaccine to serve the vaccination campaign. Earlier, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh sent a letter to Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi to ask for support for vaccines, while the government’s working group on vaccine diplomacy has also made efforts to lobby over the past time.

Faced with the complicated disease situation and the emergence of dangerous new strains like Delta, Vietnam has tried to access as many vaccine sources as possible to quickly deploy a large-scale vaccination campaign, considering this as a solution. measures and urgent priorities to combat the epidemic.

According to the Vaccine Diplomacy Working Group, by the end of August, Vietnam had received 33 million doses of the vaccine and may receive another 16-17 million doses this month. Vietnam’s goal is to receive 150 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine this year to immunize about 70% of the population.
