New photos of the military parade in Pyongyang on September 9 show that North Korean leader Kim Jong-un seems to continue to lose weight.
North Korean leader Kim Jong-un on September 9 presided over a military parade to mark the 73rd anniversary of the country’s founding. In some photos released by North Korea’s official news agency KCNA, Kim Jong-un is noticeably thinner, making his suit appear loose.
South Korea’s National Intelligence Service (NIS) last November said that Kim Jong-un weighed about 136 kg. But over the past year, he seems to have lost significant weight. NIS in July said he may have lost 10-20 kg.
Martyn Williams, a North Korea researcher, also said that at the latest parade, Kim Jong-un looked thinner.
The North Korean leader in July caught the eye with a green stain and a bandage on the back of his head. In April 2020, he did not appear in public for many days, sparking speculation about his health.
The military parade to mark the 73rd anniversary of the Korean National Day took place at Kim Il Sung Square in the capital Pyongyang with the participation of many military, security and militia units. Large weapons such as ballistic missiles, tanks and heavy self-propelled artillery did not appear, unlike the last parade in October 2020.
Leader Kim Jong-un stood in the stands, waving to the parade participants, but did not speak like previous parades.
