The vaccine batch that has just arrived in Hanoi belongs to 2.5 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine that Germany previously committed to aid Vietnam. This vaccine support is provided through the COVAX fair vaccine distribution mechanism, in collaboration with UNICEF, WHO Vietnam and the Government of Vietnam.
Dr Kidong Park, UN Resident Coordinator in Vietnam and WHO Representative in Vietnam, said: “On behalf of UN organizations, we would like to thank the German Government and people for sharing share with the Vietnamese people the much-needed vaccines to save many lives.”
According to Mr. Park, in the current challenging epidemic situation in Vietnam, UN organizations continue to support the Government’s plan to prioritize vaccination for health workers and frontline workers. anti-epidemic as well as the elderly, people with underlying medical conditions and those at highest risk of severe illness or death.
With the vaccine batch supported by the German Government, Vietnam has so far received 12,578,110 doses of COVID-19 vaccine through the COVAX mechanism.
COVAX is the vaccine pillar component of Accelerated Access to COVID-19 Response Tools (ACT-A), a groundbreaking global collaboration to accelerate the development, production, and production and equitable access to COVID-19 testing, treatment and vaccines.
The COVAX mechanism is co-led by the World Health Organization (WHO), the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI) and the Vaccine Alliance (GAVI), with UNICEF as a key implementation partner.
The goal of this mechanism is to accelerate the development and production of a COVID-19 vaccine, as well as ensure fair and equal access for all countries in the world.
Because Germany already has enough vaccines for its needs and wants to solve the shortages in the global production and supply of vaccines, from the end of August, the German government has supported vaccines from its own sources. me.
By the end of this year, Germany will provide up to 100 million doses of vaccines to developing countries, thereby contributing to increasing access to vaccines around the world.
To date, Germany has delivered a total of more than 8 million doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to the COVAX mechanism.
