“Now is not the time for Hun Manet. Hun Manet will have to wait,” Prime Minister Hun Sen said at the inauguration of a new road in Prey Veng province on December 6.

In a statement on December 4, the CPP Central Standing Committee announced its support for Hun Manet to succeed his father as Prime Minister of Cambodia.

The statement said that Mr. Hun Manet was “qualified, highly educated, capable and of good moral character, admired and respected by the masses, civil servants and armed forces”.

On December 2, Prime Minister Hun Sen, who is also the chairman of the CPP, announced that he fully supports his eldest son Hun Manet as his successor but must go through an election.

Newspaper Khmer Times commented that this is the clearest signal that Mr. Hun Sen is preparing his son to be prime minister.
