The Prime Minister thanked the Asian Development Bank (ADB) and development partners for their valuable support, effective coordination and resource mobilization for cooperation programs within the framework of the GMS and with member countries. members, including Vietnam.
The Prime Minister also thanked countries producing vaccines, including China, for sharing and helping other countries and Vietnam. This help is invaluable in the current global shortage of vaccines.
With the view that GMS needs a vision and strategic solutions to both solve today’s urgent problems and lay the foundation for sustainable and inclusive development in the next decade, Prime Minister Pham Minh It was proposed that GMS cooperation in the next period should prioritize 6 main contents.
In particular, the immediate focus is to focus on preventing, repelling and controlling the COVID-19 epidemic. The Prime Minister affirmed that in the face of the global epidemic, no people are safe when there are still other people infected with COVID-19, no country is safe when there are other countries in the region and on the world. The world still has to fight the epidemic.
Therefore, at this time, countries need to prioritize close and effective cooperation to prevent, repel and control the COVID-19 epidemic, and at the same time build a coordination mechanism to respond to infectious diseases in the near future. future.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the focus is on supporting open, equal and transparent access to vaccines and pharmaceuticals for COVID-19 treatment, and enhancing vaccine sharing through multilateral and bilateral mechanisms.
“Promoting technology transfer to build and independently produce vaccines and drugs to treat diseases in the region. Vietnam asked countries that can produce vaccines, including China, to continue to support them. for other countries, including Vietnam”, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs quoted the Prime Minister as saying at GMS.
In addition, the Prime Minister also suggested prioritizing cooperation in the GMS in such areas as securing the supply chain, creating breakthroughs in building synchronous infrastructure, promoting digital transformation, and building a green and secure GMS. , strengthen coordination between GMS and ASEAN and other regional mechanisms.
