Prepare a plan for vaccination against COVID-19 for children 6 months to under 5 years old

The Ministry of Health has just sent a document to the People’s Committees of the provinces and centrally-run cities on the review and statistics of the number of children in the area.

According to the Ministry of Health, in the past time, provinces and cities have actively and proactively deployed vaccination against COVID-19 to ensure safety, effectiveness and in accordance with issued regulations and guidelines. To date, the country has vaccinated more than 259 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine for people aged 5 years and older.

In which, the coverage rate of basic full dose for people 12 years and older is approximately 100%. The third dose for people 12 years and older is 75%. Nose 4 for subjects under the guidance of the Ministry of Health reached 77%. Nose 1 and 2 for children from 5 to under 12 years old reached 88% and 60% respectively.

To prepare a plan to expand the subjects of vaccination against COVID-19 for children in Vietnam when there are sufficient grounds and scientific bases under the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health proposed the People’s Committees of Provinces and cities directly under the Central Government direct the Department of Health and related units to organize the review and statistics of the number of children in the area from 6 months to under 5 years old. The localities also proposed the need to use vaccines for these age groups and sent them to the regional Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology/Pasteur Institute before September 30.

The Ministry of Health suggested that the Institutes of Hygiene and Epidemiology/Pasteur Institute send it to the Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology before October 10, 2022 for synthesis. The Central Institute of Hygiene and Epidemiology synthesizes data and sends it to the Ministry of Health (Department of Preventive Medicine) before October 15, 2022.

The Ministry of Health emphasized that this is an important and urgent task, so it is recommended to the People’s Committees of the provinces and cities to pay attention and direct the implementation.
