Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presided over the welcoming ceremony for the Cuban Prime Minister

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh welcomes Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrezo Cruz and a high-ranking delegation to pay an official visit to Vietnam on September 28 and October 2.

The welcoming ceremony for Cuban Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and a high-ranking delegation took place at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi this morning, according to VNA. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh went to the car door to welcome and shake hands with Mr. Marrero Cruz.

When the two Prime Ministers stood on the podium, the military orchestra sang the national anthems of the two countries. Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh invited Prime Minister Marrero Cruz to review the honor guard of the Vietnam People’s Army. The two leaders then went to the conference room at the government headquarters.

Before that, the Cuban Prime Minister and the delegation came to lay flowers and visit the Mausoleum to pay tribute to President Ho Chi Minh.

During the visit, the Cuban Prime Minister is expected to pay a courtesy visit to General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, and meet with National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue. Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz will also attend the Vietnam – Cuba Business Forum and visit Ho Chi Minh City.

This is Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz’s first visit outside of Latin America since taking office in December 2019 and the first visit by a Cuban senior leader to Vietnam since 2018.

Vietnam and Cuba established diplomatic relations on December 2, 1960, two years after the success of the Cuban Revolution. Vietnam has supported Cuba to develop household-scale rice production, corn, soybean and aquaculture production… Cuba imports from Vietnam about 300,000 to 400,000 tons of rice per year.

Some Vietnamese enterprises are implementing investment projects on industrial park infrastructure construction, construction material production, washing powder production in Cuba. Cuba has provided Vietnam with 5 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine and expressed its willingness to send medical teams to help Vietnam fight the epidemic.

In September 2021, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc visited Cuba, the first visit of a foreign head of state to Cuba since the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.
