Zinichev has been the head of Russia’s Emergencies Ministry since 2018 after President Vladimir Putin was re-elected. He began his career as an employee of the USSR’s National Security Committee (KGB) in the late 1980s and later went on to serve in the Federal Security Service (FSB).
Zinichev was a member of President Putin’s bodyguard and was a close aide from 2006-2015. The Kremlin said Putin had been informed of the incident.
