Samsung builds a special team to ‘fight’ Apple in 2025

Theo Neowin, despite recent efforts, Samsung’s Exynos division has not been able to compare with rivals such as Qualcomm or Apple. To improve on this, Samsung teamed up with AMD to create an Exynos 2200-specific GPU with bittersweet results.

Both the AMD RDNA 2 Xclipse 920 and Exynos 2200 graphics are quite disappointing in terms of power efficiency as they are not much better than their respective predecessors. In short, the new CPU is about 5% faster while the AMD graphics are about 17% better – both of which are clearly not enough.

Now, Samsung is looking to get really serious and start changing the chip business by 2025 by forming a special team called “Dream Platform One”. The goal of this team will be to design a “homegrown” chip to compete with Apple Silicon and products based on Apple’s M1 chip.

The new report comes not long after it was suggested that Samsung is developing a custom chip for the Galaxy S series in 2025, corresponding to the Galaxy S25. That said, Samsung’s 2025 custom SoC could be a really powerful chip if it beats the Apple M1 or whatever Apple releases three years later.

Finally, sources say that Samsung is not the only company planning to take down Apple as some recent rumors suggest that Intel is also working on a “Royal Core” project to help it fight the Apple M1. and the common threat of Arm.
