In Florida, USA, a disappearance case thought to have been forgotten is suddenly revealed after more than 20 years. The testimony of a 3-year-old child did not win everyone’s trust, but the 24-year-old’s actions have now made the long-buried crime exposed.
The crime of the murderous husband is buried
In May 2019, Michael Haim was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of his wife.
Bonnie was murdered at the age of 23
Michael Haim and Bonnie both work at a construction company owned by Michael Haim’s aunt. Bonnie is in charge of accounting and Michael Haim is the manager. They soon got together and had a son. The small family’s life was normal until Christmas 1992, the couple had a big argument. A neighbor recounted that: “Bonnie came home in tears, her fingernails broken after being beaten by her husband.”
According to a reporter for the “Times-Union”, Bonnie opened a bank account, saving money to leave her current husband with her son. So when Michael Haim discovered this account, he asked his wife to close the account, leading to the argument and the above fight.

After that, Bonnie continued her intention to save and this time to avoid being discovered by her husband, she gave the money to her friends to keep. As of January 1993, she saved $1,250 (about 29 million VND at current exchange rates). At the end of January, Bonnie got everything ready for her plan to leave her husband, she even managed to pay a deposit for a two-room apartment.
But a few days later, Bonnie’s colleagues did not see her go to work. At this time Michael Haim also informed the police that his wife had run away from home after an argument and he started looking for her along with his mother.
Following the lead, police reached out to a hotel employee near the International Airport, who found Bonnie’s wallet in a trash can. Police found her car in the airport parking lot. Police noticed that the driver’s seat of the vehicle was not adjusted for Bonnie’s height but for someone taller than her.
Aron with his father Michael Haim after his mother Bonnie was murdered
Up to this point, Bonnie is believed to be missing and it is highly likely that she ran away on her own. But now his 3-year-old son Aron told a child welfare worker that: “Dad shot mom”. So Michael Haim was suspected as a murder suspect, but the case was difficult when the victim’s body could not be found. The case once again reached a dead end. Although the boy Aron insisted that his father was the murderer of his mother, no one, including his family, believed him. People just think that children don’t understand things so words are not trustworthy.
24-year-old boy demands justice for his mother
After the shock of losing his mother, Aron was adopted by another family. However, the boy still did not change his testimony against his father, even though no one believed in his words. Police found drawings of Aron, who drew Michael Haim with a pistol in his hand and pointed it at Bonnie. According to his adoptive mother, the boy even showed her the bridge near the family home, where his father had thrown a pistol.
Aron in his mother’s arms
The thought that the case happened more than 20 years ago has gradually faded into oblivion, but the truth always exists. In 2014, Aron moved into the old family home. The 24-year-old started to renovate the house and install a large swimming pool. One day, while Aron was digging a hole in his backyard, he came across a round object. “It looks like a coconut shell. I held it in my hand,” I said.
After examining the object, Aron discovered that there were teeth and eye sockets covered with dirt. He put it back in place and immediately called the police. The forensics team conducted a DNA analysis and determined that the remains belonged to Bonnie. Besides the remains, police also found a bullet matching the barrel of a rifle believed to be in her husband’s arsenal.
On August 24, 2015, 52-year-old Michael Haim was arrested on suspicion of murder. When questioned, he still refused to admit his guilt: “I love my wife and I never hurt her.” But faced with irrefutable evidence, he finally confessed, he killed his wife and buried her body to hide the incident. Michael Haim was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes.
The police had to scour the soil for the remains of Bonnie’s body
After hearing the verdict, Bonnie’s sister Liz Peak shared: “For more than 20 years we have wanted justice. We finally got it, but we still can’t find Bonnie.”
