Recently, The Sun newspaper reported on a rare incident that happened to a 73-year-old woman from Algeria. Local media reported that the old woman in the story recently suddenly had a stomach ache for unknown reasons. To find out the cause, he decided to go to the hospital to see a doctor.
However, when doing an ultrasound for her, the doctors accidentally discovered a rare case that they themselves were shocked to see with their own eyes. X-ray images show that in the abdomen of this 73-year-old woman is a 7-month-old fetus weighing about 2kg, and has calcified there for 35 years without anyone knowing.
Even during the past decades, along with that “petrified” fetus, the old woman still lived normally, without pain or signs of deterioration in health. Before that, she also went for medical treatment a few times, but the doctors did not detect the existence of a fetus in this patient’s body.

According to Dr. Kim Garcsi from University Hospital Case Medical Center in Cleveland, stromal tissue was created when the fetus formed in the abdomen instead of in the uterus. So when a miscarriage occurs, usually because there is not enough blood supply, the body has no way to expel the pregnancy. As a result, the body automatically calcifies the fetus, turning it to “stone” using the same immune mechanism to protect the body from all foreign objects.
The tissue calcification protects the mother from infection, he said, and means the baby has calcified in the abdominal cavity undetected for decades. “Most of them are completely asymptomatic.” Dr. Garcsi told ABC News.

According to a 1996 article in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine, only 290 similar cases have ever been recorded in the medical history literature. The first case in the world is the case of a 68-year-old French woman, Colombe Chatri. After her death in 1582 and an autopsy, it was discovered that she was carrying a fully developed but calcified baby.
Another named Chatri also carried her calcified child for 28 years and suffered from symptoms such as swelling, tightness and pain for a long time. In 2013, an elderly Colombian woman was stunned to learn that a 40-year-old baby in her stomach had caused the pelvic pain she had suffered. In 2009, a 92-year-old Chinese woman named Huang Yijun cesarean section from a calcified baby she had carried for more than half a century.
