Flower egg crabs have a relatively narrow oval shape, with a smooth surface and smooth edges. They have large and smooth claws with a black spoon-shaped tip, males are usually larger and smaller than females.

With young flower egg crabs, their lovely appearance will make people immediately think of the Dorayaki fritters that often appear in the famous Doraemon manga.

However, the meat of this species is poisonous, even when cooked, when consumed, the poison does not decompose and often leads to death.. These toxins are synthesized by bacteria of the genus Vibrio that live in symbiosis with crabs, and toxins similar to those found in puffer fish, such as tetrodotoxin, and also saxitoxin, which are the main toxins involved in shellfish poisoning.

Flower egg crabs occur in the eastern Indian Ocean from Southeast Asia, south to Australia, to Rottnest Island in Western Australia and possibly Sydney in the east, their father’s range extending east through western Thailand Binh Duong to Hawaii.
