Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen announced that he and his wife had received a booster shot of the Covid-19 vaccine this morning.
“Today, I received the third Covid-19 vaccine, or booster shot, with my beloved wife,” the Cambodian Prime Minister shared a photo of him and his wife getting the injection on Facebook today.
Prime Minister Hun Sen added that nearly 780,000 people across Cambodia have received a third dose of the Covid-19 vaccine, affirming the injection will be for everyone.
Hun Sen said last weekend that China will donate three million more doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to Cambodia and these doses will be used for the third injection. According to the Cambodian Prime Minister, the country needs to buy three million more doses of the Covid-19 vaccine to give the third dose to 12 million people.
Cambodia currently has about 29.6 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine purchased and donated, including 7.8 million doses of Sinopharm, 19 million doses of Sinovac, 1,739,000 doses of AstraZeneca and 1,064,600 doses of Johnson & Johnson. As of September 13, the country has given at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccine to 9,758,198 adults, completing about 97.58% of the set target of 10 million people.
For children 12-18 years old, Cambodia injected at least one dose of vaccine for 1,712,455 children, of which 995,737 had two full shots. Cambodia aims to give Covid-19 vaccines to two million people in this age group. Nationwide, Cambodia has given Covid-19 vaccines to about 71.69% of its 16 million population.
Cambodia currently records more than 100,700 infections and more than 2,000 deaths from Covid-19.
