These vaccines were donated to Vietnam by France and Italy through the COVAX global vaccine distribution mechanism, the Government’s Working Group on Vaccine Diplomacy said.
This is the number of vaccines France and Italy have pledged to aid to Vietnam before. France committed 670,000 doses and Italy more than 800,000 doses.
Attending the ceremony, on the Vietnamese side, were Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs To Anh Dung, Deputy Minister of Health Tran Van Thuan, representatives of functional units of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Health.
Representatives of the two European countries were French Ambassador Nicolas Warnery and Chargé d’Affaires of the Italian Embassy Paolo Epifani. Italy and France are two of the European Union’s (EU) top donors to the COVAX mechanism, and are also two of the EU member states’ largest COVID-19 vaccine donors to the EU. Vietnam.
The two countries are also important trade partners of Vietnam and development partners of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
