AmericaTerry Splawn won the jackpot three times in the past four years, all thanks to a lottery ticket purchased at a convenience store in North Carolina.
The North Carolina Education Lottery (NCEL) announced on September 10 that Concorde resident Terry Splawn won a $100,000 prize with a $20 scratch-off ticket. He brought in nearly $71,000 after paying state and federal taxes.
“It’s unbelievable. I’m definitely happy to have won the lottery,” Splawn said.

This is the third time Splawn has won the lottery in the past four years. The first took place in April 2017 when he bought a scratch-off ticket at Sam’s Mini Stop convenience store and won a million dollars. Nearly two years later, Splawn continued to have good luck with scratch tickets purchased at the same location and won another million dollars. The scratch-off ticket that brought in $71,000 for this man earlier this week was also sold at Sam’s Mini Stop.
“The probability of a person winning a million-dollar lottery ticket twice is rare, but not impossible,” said Jan Hannig, a professor of statistics at the University of North Carolina.
