On September 9, more than 100 people, including US citizens, boarded a Qatar Airways flight leaving Kabul airport. The flight landed in the Qatari capital Doha on the evening of the same day, according to AFP news agency.

This is the first flight carrying foreigners out of Kabul since the US ended its evacuation from Afghanistan on August 30. That rapid evacuation took more than 120,000 people out of Afghanistan.

This first international flight was made after the Taliban announced a new government in Afghanistan. Less than a month ago, the Taliban took control of the capital, Kabul, while then-Afghan President Ashraf Ghani left the country.

According to AFP news agency, the US has commended the Taliban for acting “professionally” and cooperating in facilitating the evacuation flight.

US National Security Council spokeswoman Emily Horne said the flight marked a “positive first step” for the Taliban.

“The Taliban have cooperated in facilitating the departure of US citizens and lawful permanent residents from Kabul airport on charter flights. They (Taliban) have shown flexibility, organized action and expertise. career,” said Emily Horne.

Earlier, the US said about 100 Americans were believed to be still trapped in Afghanistan. US President Joe Biden announced the end of the military mission in Afghanistan before the deadline of August 31, ending the 20-year US war in Afghanistan.
