Vietnam asks Pfizer to soon provide vaccines for children aged 5-11

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh asked Pfizer to soon supply 22 million doses of vaccine to children aged 5-11 in Vietnam, when talking by phone with the chairman of the pharmaceutical company.

In a phone call today with Mr. Albert Bourla, chairman and CEO of US pharmaceutical group Pfizer, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said that Vietnam has just imported Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccine to inject children aged 12-17. age, helping children feel safer and more secure when going back to school, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Up to now, the rate of first injection for children 12-17 years old has reached nearly 96%, while the second dose is nearly 90%.

Facing the still complicated epidemic situation, in order to protect the health of children and continue to effectively implement the process of safely reopening schools, the Prime Minister asked Pfizer leaders to promote the supply of 22 million doses of vaccines for children. for children 5-11 years old in Vietnam in the coming days, try to complete the supply contract in April, no later than May.

The Prime Minister asked Pfizer to regularly update and provide information on the development of new vaccines, and at the same time provide and transfer technology for drug production to treat new strains of the virus.

He also thanked Pfizer for collaborating with Vietnam in the past time to complete the supply of 51 million doses of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Pfizer Chairman affirmed that he will make efforts to speed up the contract implementation, providing the earliest vaccines for children 5-11 years old in Vietnam. He also said that Pfizer may cooperate with Vietnam in transferring technology to produce drugs to treat Covid-19.

On January 20, the Ministry of Health proposed that the government buy nearly 22 million doses of Pfizer vaccine to inject children 5-11 years old. It is estimated that there are 11 million children 5-11 years old in the country who need to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
