Recently, media and social networks in India spread a video showing a rare accident but also considered an expensive lesson for those who are always glued to their mobile phones. A nearby security camera captured the entire incident clearly.
Accordingly, a woman (unnamed) holding her 9-month-old baby walking on the street in Faridabad city, Haryana state, India.
It is worth mentioning that even while walking on the street, the woman did not pay attention but only focused on the mobile phone. Because the manhole cover was lost, people in the nearby area put a temporary billboard next to it to warn passers-by. However, this woman still didn’t mind. She walked around the billboard while holding the phone to her ear to talk to someone.
Suddenly, a woman’s left leg missed the manhole, both mother and child immediately fell below. It can be seen that she is still holding the baby tightly in her lap. The video then shows people on both sides of the road who witnessed the incident and ran to help.
A man, identified as Lakhwinder, can be seen jumping into the manhole to get the mother and daughter out, when another man above reaches out to pull. Everyone looked startled. The child is rescued first, the mother is brought up later.
A man took his nine-month-old baby to a corner to check for injuries, and another woman came to comfort him.
As soon as she was rescued from the sewer, the mother immediately ran to check the condition of the child in a state of extreme panic. She hugged the strange woman to regain her composure. Fortunately, both mother and daughter were not seriously injured after that heart-pounding miss.
The footage, which was filmed on October 8, then shows many residents living in the neighborhood standing to discuss how to cover the drain. The 3 men then quickly brought a 4-sided billboard that was placed on the manhole.
According to local people, the sluice gate remained open for many days despite reporting to the local authorities to find a solution.
